We at the Aegean Center are proud to be a part of The Association of American Colleges and Universities. Our acceptance into the AAC&U is based on the consistent high quality, innovation and merit of our programs and course offerings over the Past 40 years. During the AAC&U review and evaluation process of the Center's application for membership, the director wrote, "... the Aegean Center would have so much to contribute to the member community and much to learn with our members. In fact the Aegean Center will be a great addition to the member community." We share with the Association of American Colleges and Universities their spirit of mutual respect and exchange and look forward to a bright and promising future together.

In 2006 the Aegean Center will celebrate its fortieth anniversary. I believe it should be noted that for a innovative, independent and small program, such an anniversary is a celebration of survival as well.

From our beginnings in the turbulent mid 60s on through the transitional, often difficult, ensuing four generations the Center has held tight to its principles: a well taught, classically oriented curriculum, utilizing small group and individual tutorial format in two of the world's most beautiful, archetypal and humanistic locations.

We are keenly aware of the importance of changing with the times while maintaining our integrity and philosophy of teaching. After forty years of consistency this achievement is now being marked with merited and due recognition. Our fundamental commitment to the canon of beauty and highest level of broad-minded classical education is, we believe, becoming ever more important on this threshold of the 21st century. Education is one of the most important investments any of us will make in our lifetime. If you have not yet done so, I invite you to read a remarakable and relevent essay by: Dorothy L. Sayers, entitled, THE LOST TOOLS OF LEARNING.
